HomeSquirrels
for children 5 years and older, together with a parent(s)
The HomeSquirrels is an outdoor playgroup for homeschooling (and homeschooling-curious) families with children aged 5 years and up. Younger siblings are also welcome. Weekly meet-ups for outdoor fun in the forest, guided by a forest school educator. The teacher will facilitate free play, safe use of tools, nature skills and crafts, identification of plants and animals, and storytelling and songs.
In Fall 2026, the HomeSquirrels will meet on Tuesdays from 12h30 to 14h30, from September 15 to November 17. They will be led by Teacher Ryan.
Each weekly introductory activity is made optional for families and subject to change (based on participants' interests, the weather, etc.)
Week 1: Welcome, maps, and orienteering
Week 2: Mushrooming with your family
Week 3: Trees and leaves, nature art
Week 4: Safe tool use: peelers and whittling
Week 5: Plants and basic herbal teas
Week 6: Safe tool use: cutting with saws
Week 7: Rainy day? Setting up tarps
Week 8: Campfire safety and preparation
Week 9: Camping in the woods, tent set up
Week 10: Celebrate our last class together!
HomeSquirrels programs are delivered three times per year, in Fall, Winter and Spring. The Fall session runs for 10 weeks.
Registration for Fall 2026 sessions will open on Tuesday, September 1 at 6pm.
This is a pay-as-you-can program, with suggested contribution of $300 per family.
